The Bengal film industry (Tollywood) as the tinsel world remembered Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, one of the greatest superstars of Indian cinemas, on his 36th death anniversary today.
He died an untimely death on 24th of July,1980 at the age 54 leaving millions of his admirers immersed in grief and shock, and pays their soulful tribute to him & his outstanding works.
Uttam Kumar as Arun Kumar Chatterjee was an Indian film actor, director, producer, singer and music composer, playback singer who predominantly worked in Indian Cinema. Known for his brilliant screen presence & acting abilities. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today remembered veteran actor Uttam Kumar, lovingly called Mahanayak here as late actor Uttam Kumar’s birth anniversary.

“Tinti Mantra Niye Jader Jibon Satyam Shivan Sundaram. My homage to the legendary actor Mahanayak Uttam Kumar on his death anniversary,” Ms Banerjee posted on her social networking site with coloured photograph of iconic actor.
Banerjee said it still pains her that the body of the “Nayak” actor was not kept for his fans to pay their last tribute.
“I am still pained that Uttam Kumar’s body was not allowed to be kept at Rabindra Sadan to allow the people to pay their respects,” she said at a programme here by the state government to mark Kumar’s 36th death anniversary.
