His first film ‘Gangster’ is set to release this October but Yash Dasgupta, the new face of Bangla cinema is already making to the headlines for his dream launch. The actor and model who is been considered as the superstar of future is, however, lost in the magic of golden era of Bengali silver screen,is never complete without the man Bengali has named ‘Mahanayak’ Uttam Kumar.
In an interview to a Bengali daily, the actor called himself a fan of Two Legends Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. According to him,”The smartness I found in the films of Uttam-Suchitra era, the same smartness is missing in the films of the contemporary time. After the death of Uttam Kumar the standard of Bengali film has reduced to a certain level. We all are trying to restore the quality”. The debutant actor Yash talks.
Of the 60 films Suchitra Sen worked in, 30 were with Bengal’s King of Hearts Uttam Kumar . The duo gave a string of hits such as Sagarika (1956), Harano Sur (1957), Indrani (1958), Agnipariksha (1954), Saptapadi, Grihadaha (1967), all part of Bengali cinematic history today that have enjoyed ageless popularity and are watched, loved and admired even to this day.
Interestingly, these films are remembered not only as the best of Uttam and Suchitra, but as cinema that is poignant, sensitive and heart-rending. The star pair ushered in what came to be known as the golden era of Bengali cinema. No other romantic pair in Bengali cinema in the subsequent decades have been able to match up to the magic created by Suchitra Sen and Uttam Kumar. The Upcoming romantic thriller film directed by Birsa Dasgupta under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films. The film stars newcomer Yash Dasgupta with Mimi Chakraborty. The film is ready to be released on 7th of October.
