The way of the future and the way forward ” . This is how a solar cycle path which opened this week in the town of Krommenie , northwest of Amsterdam , and is the first solar cycle path the world is presented.
The idea behind SolaRoad is simple: sunlight falling on the road surface is absorbed by solar cells and converted into electricity – the road surface acts as a large solar panel. The electricity generated in this way will find practical applications in street lighting.
This 70 meters long has the first part of this bike path built with concrete panels that store solar cells and that are covered with tempered glass. When these panels receive sunlight , start to produce energy.
