Looks like Bollywood is soon going to have another detective in Feluda, Pradeep Sarkar is trying his best to get the copyright of Feluda stories.
The director Pradeep Sarkar to remake the famous Bengali detective Feluda movie ‘Sonar Kella’ in Hindi which Ray made in the early seventies.
The movie went on to win four national awards in 1975 including that of best director for Ray. Feluda, Topshe, and Jatayu, the most beloved Trio of Bengali sleuth series won’t be present in his film.
“Yes, it’s true that I have bought the rights of ‘Sonar Kella’. It will be inspired from ‘Sonar Kella’. I have the Hindi rights to only this film and not the Feluda series. I am trying to make something very diffe rent. Once this script is ready,I will discuss it with Sandip Ray,” Sarkar said.
“I have given the rights of Baba’s short story to Dibakar Banerjee. I have always maintained that if the director is competent, I am open to giving the Feluda rights in Hindi,” he said.
Shonar Kella is a 1971 mystery novel by Bengali writer and filmmaker Satyajit Ray. In 1974, Ray directed a film adaption of the book, also named Sonar Kella has been considered as a milestone for Bangla cinema, starring Soumitra Chatterjee, Santosh Dutta, Siddartha Chatterjee and Kushal Chakraborty. The movie was released in the United States as The Golden Fortress.
