Calcutta – Saswata Chatterjee also known as Apu, is one of the greatest talents on whom contemporary Tollywood takes pride of. The actor, who is also the son of Late noted Bengali actor Subhendu Chatterjee, doesn’t hide the fact that he is a huge fan of Uttam Kumar, the greatest actors ever in India.
According to him, no actor can ever come close to the legendary actor. He enjoyed success at the national level in Sujoy Ghosh’s 2012 blockbuster Hindi film, Kahaani, where he played an assassin and recently finished shooting for Anurag Basu’s Hindi Movie.
Not so Uttam Kumar. Celebrated in life and death, churning out blockbusters by the dozen, he was designated ‘Mahanayak’ – ‘Great Hero’ – long before he died.
Uttam Kumar as the most popular film star of Bengali cinema, Kumar managed to have a huge fan following, that mainly concentrated in the regions of West Bengal, India. He was a recipient of many awards over his lifetime, including National Film Award for Best Actor. A Metro Station in Kolkata was renamed in his honour.
