“No,” says director Anirban Paria of Ebong Kiriti, starring Priyanshu Chatterjee as the sleuth. Explaining his stance just a day ahead of the shoot, he said, ” After author Nihar Ranjan Gupta breathed his last, the rights to his novels were divided among his four children. We have bought the rights to Ratibilaap from Kaberi Sen and have a receipt of the amount paid. Also, I have a copy of the partition deed. It’s beyond reason why those from another franchise should call up our producer asking him to stop shooting.”
Kiriti O Kalo Bhromor, which stars Indraneil Sengupta in the lead, received a lukewarm response at the box office after its release this year. Directed by Anindya Bikas Dutta, it also features Samadarshi Dutta and Arunima Ghosh as Kiriti’s accomplice Subrata and Krishna, the detective’s wife.
