This year will be remembered as the year of LIGO, the US-based gravitational wave observatory. After February’smomentous discovery, an international team has now confirmed another observation of gravitational waves from colliding black holes.
Scientists have again detected gravitational waves from two black holes colliding. An international team of researchers at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory said the waves washed over Earth after two distant black holes merged into a single larger black hole one-point-four billion years ago.
The gravitational waves were observed by two observatories in the states of Louisiana and Washington on December 25th, 2015. The first detection of gravitational waves was made in September of last year and announced in February. The strange ripples in space-time were first foreseen by Albert Einstein a century ago. via – ARIRANG NEWS
