A wildfire blazing through Canada’s oil sands region continues to grow rapidly on Sunday, but according to a fire official, is moving further away from populated areas. The fire started at 6 p.m. last Sunday near the town of Fort McMurray in Northeast Alberta.
It spread to quickly that all of the towns 88,000 inhabitants had to leave without much notice. Large parts of the town have been destroyed by the fire. According to officials, more than 500 firefighters were on scene near For McMurray with 15 helicopters, 14 air tankers and and 88 other pieces of equipment.
