The Bengal film industry (Tollywood) as the tinsel world remembered Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, one of the greatest superstars of Indian cinemas, on his 36th death anniversary today.
Uttam Kumar (3 September 1926 – 24 July 1980) (born as Arun Kumar Chatterjee) was an Indian film actor, director, producer, singer and music composer, playback singer who predominantly worked in Indian Cinema. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday observed Friday as late actor Uttam Kumar’s birth anniversary. Friday was in reality Kumar’s 35th death anniversary. He was born on September 3.
At an awards function — Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Awards — organised by the state information and cultural affairs department to commemorate the actor’s death anniversary, Mamata said: “We commemorate this birthday of his (Uttam Kumar) to the film world and honour people from the film industry with Mahanayak Samman.”
