Music has always played a major role in Anjan Dutt’s films. And his upcoming film, The Bongs Again, will see a mix of Rabindrasangeet and folk songs, woven beautifully into the storyline.We spoke to the film’s music director, Neel Dutt, and directors Srijit Mukherji and Mainak Bhaumik about their love for the The Bong Connection franchise, the music of the film and much more. Srijit Mukherji: The Bong Conne ction, with its fasci nating, crisscross ing, twin journeys, replete with mem orable characters and lilting music, told me it’s time to set sail and start planning for the final plunge. I am delighted that the franchise is being revived with The Bongs Again.
With a gender reversal of the original, it’s a journey of two young women. Only time will tell whether it can live up to the legacy of the original or not. But one thing is sure -it is going to be an heir to a film which occupies a very special place in my heart. Anjanda has possibly made better films after that, possibly he would make it differently if he made it today , possibly it’s raw and unvarnished cinematically , but then with all its uneven paint and jagged edges, a milestone on the highway of Bengali cinema is at the end of the day , a milestone.READ MORE
